PRIVACY POLICY

Gunnie keeps your collection to yourself.

Gunnie is a personal firearm, ammunition, and gear inventory app. This page explains, in plain language, what the app does and doesn't do with your information.

§1

Overview

Gunnie was built around one rule: your collection is your business. There's no account to create, no server holding your inventory, and no advertising or analytics tracking what you do in the app. Everything you enter — firearms, ammunition lots, accessories, maintenance history, values, photos — stays on your device, and only leaves it if you choose to sync it privately through your own iCloud account or export it yourself.

This policy covers what limited information the app touches, why, and how you can remove it at any time.

§2

What we don't collect

Gunnie has no backend server, so there is nothing for us to collect in the first place. Specifically, Gunnie does not:

  • Require a name, email, or account to use
  • Run analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking
  • Show ads or use advertising identifiers
  • Sell, rent, or share your data with third parties
  • Transmit your inventory to any server we operate
  • Track your location

We — the developer — cannot see your collection. We don't have a dashboard, a database, or any other way to view what you've entered into the app.

§3

What's stored, and where

Everything you enter in Gunnie — firearm specs, serial numbers, ammunition lots, accessories, maintenance logs, value records, notes, and any photos you attach — is stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device data framework. That's the entire picture for the free tier of the app.

Private iCloud sync (Gunnie Pro)

If you subscribe to Gunnie Pro and turn on iCloud Sync in Settings, your data also syncs to your own private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit — the same private-database mechanism apps like Notes and Reminders use. It exists solely to keep your own devices in sync with each other. It is not a shared, public, or Gunnie-operated database, we cannot access it, and it's covered by Apple's own iCloud privacy and security practices, not ours. Turning iCloud Sync off in Settings stops this at any time; your data then lives on-device only.

§4

Camera

Gunnie can use your camera for one purpose: reading a laser-etched serial number off a firearm so you don't have to type it in. This feature uses Apple's on-device text recognition (VisionKit) — the camera feed is analyzed on your device in real time to find text, and nothing is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. Once you tap the recognized serial number to fill in the field, the camera session ends. Manual entry is always available as well, and Pro is required only for the scan-to-fill shortcut itself, not for entering a serial number.

§5

Photo library

When you tap "Add Photo," Gunnie opens Apple's standard photo picker, which runs as a separate, sandboxed system component. Gunnie only ever receives the specific photos you select — it never gets broad access to your photo library, and the picker itself doesn't report anything back to us about what else is in your library. Selected photos are downsized before being stored (to keep sync payloads reasonable) and are handled exactly like the rest of your inventory data: on-device, and privately synced only if you've enabled iCloud Sync.

§6

Subscriptions

Gunnie Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit and your App Store account. Gunnie never receives, sees, or stores your payment details — that relationship is between you and Apple, governed by Apple's own privacy practices. We only learn whether your subscription is currently active, which is what unlocks Pro features in the app.

§7

Exporting & sharing

Gunnie can generate a CSV of your inventory or a formatted PDF report, for your own records or to hand to an insurance agent. Both go through iOS's standard Share Sheet, so the destination — Mail, Files, AirDrop, a messaging app, or anywhere else — is entirely your choice at the moment you export. Gunnie itself does not transmit this data anywhere on its own.

§8

Deleting your data

Because everything lives on your device (and, optionally, your own private iCloud), you're always in control of it:

  • Delete an individual firearm, accessory, ammo lot, or photo any time from within the app.
  • Use Settings → Danger Zone → Erase All Data to permanently clear your entire collection from the app in one step.
  • Deleting the app removes its on-device data; if iCloud Sync was on, removing the app's data from your iCloud account follows Apple's standard iCloud data handling.

§9

Children's privacy

Gunnie is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 17, consistent with its App Store age rating for firearm-related content. We do not knowingly collect information from children, and since the app collects no information from us in the first place, there is no data of any kind at stake either way.

§10

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of Gunnie adds a feature that changes how data is handled — we'll update the "Last updated" date above and the change will apply from that date forward.
