PRIVACY POLICY

guitarKeeper keeps your collection to yourself.

guitarKeeper is a personal music-gear inventory app for tracking your guitars, basses, amps, and pedals — plus a chord chart library. This page explains, in plain language, what the app does and doesn't do with your information.

§1

Overview

guitarKeeper was built around one rule: your collection is your business. There's no account to create, no server holding your gear list, and no advertising or analytics tracking what you do in the app. Everything you enter — guitars, basses, amps, pedals and effects, accessories checklists, maintenance history, values, photos, and notes — stays on your device, and only leaves it if you choose to sync it privately through your own iCloud account or export it yourself.

The chord chart library works the same way: every diagram (guitar, bass, and mandolin, including a handful of alternate guitar tunings) is content built into the app itself, computed on your device, not fetched from anywhere. It never sends any information anywhere.

This policy covers what limited information the app touches, why, and how you can remove it at any time.

§2

What we don't collect

guitarKeeper has no backend server, so there is nothing for us to collect in the first place. Specifically, guitarKeeper does not:

  • Require a name, email, or account to use
  • Run analytics, crash reporting, or usage tracking
  • Show ads or use advertising identifiers
  • Sell, rent, or share your data with third parties
  • Transmit your inventory to any server we operate
  • Access your microphone or track your location

We — the developer — cannot see your collection. We don't have a dashboard, a database, or any other way to view what you've entered into the app.

§3

What's stored, and where

Everything you enter in guitarKeeper — instrument and amp specs, serial numbers, pedal and effect details, accessories checklists, maintenance logs, value records, notes, and any photos you attach — is stored locally on your device using Apple's on-device data framework. That's the entire picture for the free tier of the app.

Private iCloud sync (guitarKeeper Pro)

If you subscribe to guitarKeeper Pro and turn on iCloud Sync in Settings, your data also syncs to your own private iCloud database through Apple's CloudKit — the same private-database mechanism apps like Notes and Reminders use. It exists solely to keep your own devices in sync with each other. It is not a shared, public, or guitarKeeper-operated database, we cannot access it, and it's covered by Apple's own iCloud privacy and security practices, not ours. Turning iCloud Sync off in Settings stops this at any time; your data then lives on-device only.

§4

Camera

guitarKeeper can use your camera for one purpose: reading a serial number off an instrument, amp, or pedal so you don't have to type it in. This feature uses Apple's on-device text recognition (VisionKit) — the camera feed is analyzed on your device in real time to find text, and nothing is recorded, stored, or sent anywhere. Once you tap the recognized serial number to fill in the field, the camera session ends. Manual entry is always available as well, and Pro is required only for the scan-to-fill shortcut itself, not for entering a serial number.

§5

Photo library

When you tap "Add Photo," guitarKeeper opens Apple's standard photo picker, which runs as a separate, sandboxed system component. guitarKeeper only ever receives the specific photos you select — it never gets broad access to your photo library, and the picker itself doesn't report anything back to us about what else is in your library. Selected photos are downsized before being stored (to keep sync payloads reasonable) and are handled exactly like the rest of your inventory data: on-device, and privately synced only if you've enabled iCloud Sync.

§6

Subscriptions

guitarKeeper Pro is an optional auto-renewable subscription. Purchases are processed entirely by Apple through StoreKit and your App Store account. guitarKeeper never receives, sees, or stores your payment details — that relationship is between you and Apple, governed by Apple's own privacy practices. We only learn whether your subscription is currently active, which is what unlocks Pro features in the app.

§7

Exporting & sharing

guitarKeeper can generate a CSV of your full inventory — guitars/basses, amps, and pedals/effects together — or, with Pro, a formatted PDF report with photos, for your own records or to hand to an insurance agent. Both go through iOS's standard Share Sheet, so the destination — Mail, Files, AirDrop, a messaging app, or anywhere else — is entirely your choice at the moment you export. guitarKeeper itself does not transmit this data anywhere on its own.

§8

Deleting your data

Because everything lives on your device (and, optionally, your own private iCloud), you're always in control of it:

  • Delete an individual instrument, amp, pedal or effect, accessory, or photo any time from within the app.
  • Use Settings → Danger Zone → Erase All Data to permanently clear your entire collection from the app in one step.
  • Deleting the app removes its on-device data; if iCloud Sync was on, removing the app's data from your iCloud account follows Apple's standard iCloud data handling.

§9

Children's privacy

guitarKeeper is a general-audience app about musical instrument gear and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from children — and since the app doesn't collect information from anyone in the first place, there is no data of any kind at stake either way.

§10

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of guitarKeeper adds a feature that changes how data is handled — we'll update the "Last updated" date above and the change will apply from that date forward.
